C3 supports Dubai Cares hosting the first Humanitarian Accelerator in the UAE

At C3, we feel very privileged to have been selected by Dubai Cares to help design and develop the Humanitarian Accelerator, a 9-week program aimed at solving education challenges in Jordan through the appropriate application of technology. The Humanitarian Accelerator focuses on the education of vulnerable children: it has being hosted by Dubai Cares and delivered in collaboration with Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives [http://www.almaktouminitiatives.org/en] and Dubai Future Accelerators [https://dubaifutureaccelerators.com/en] .

The Humanitarian Accelerator has identified early childhood education as a priority focus for the education of vulnerable children in Jordan and a pilot intervention is planned with key entry points currently being assessed with the support of local actors on the ground in Jordan. Such a pilot requires the Humanitarian Accelerator to prepare the entrepreneurs to be able to deliver an intervention that has the support of key stakeholders and has the potential to deliver multi-dimensional and long-term positive impact.

The first batch of entrepreneurs includes:

Lamsa [http://www.lamsaworld.com] , a MENA based Ed-Tech company that creates engaging and interactive Edu-tainment content in Arabic primarily for children 2-8 years of age. Content delivery is via an App (the leading App in the MENA in this space with over 10m downloads) as well as books often leveraging augmented reality to enhance engagement.

Tembo Education [http://www.temboeducationgroup.com] , a company providing timely and appropriate early childhood development activities via text messages to the parents of 0-6 year old children in both developing and developed world nations.

Ustad Mobile [https://www.ustadmobile.com] , a company offering low cost EdTech solutions via an open source platform designed to provide interactive learning content offline between devices with peer-to-peer sharing.

C3 has been running its flagship workshops for the three-entrepreneur cohort, including ‘Making Money by Doing Good’, ‘C3 Approach to Social Impact Assessment’ and ‘C3 Pitch Perfect’. We have also had one-on- one interactions with the entrepreneurs to better cater to their individual needs both from the program and to scale and accelerate their own businesses.

Anna Bertmar Khan, Senior Technical Advisor at Dubai Cares said, “We at Dubai Cares work to find innovative solutions to help deliver quality education to children and youth in developing countries. For our most recent project hosting the Humanitarian Accelerator for Refugee Education in collaboration with Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives and Dubai Future Accelerators, C3 was pivotal in helping us design and deliver the accelerator program. The C3 team provided both Dubai Cares and the accelerator teams with deep knowledge and vast experience in social enterprise models, business analysis and support throughout the 9 week long initiative.”

The Humanitarian Accelerator program, in addition to delivering useful tools and best practices on how to approach social impact in the educational sector in Jordan, is also a great example of collaboration between educational services providers, philanthropic and private organizations. Medea Nocentini, CEO and Co- founder of C3 said, “It is imperative in the education sector that different stakeholder needs be addressed in parallel in order to truly help the vulnerable children at the centre of the initiative. At C3, we believe collaboration is a key success factor in delivering social impact and through the collaboration we have witnessed between the different actors during the Humanitarian Accelerator, a stronger value proposition with the promise of greater scale and impact is being created.”
